JACKSONVILLE – Six Gamecocks scored in double figures as the Jacksonville State women’s basketball team ran away from Stillman College in a 93-38 win at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Senior Tyler Phelion led the way with 13 points as the Gamecocks spread the wealth evenly among its top scorers. Gretchen Morrison and Taylor Hawks each recorded 12 points and combined to hit seven three-pointers as Jax State matched a program record with 16 triples overall. Rayven Pearson posted a double-double for the second time in three games to begin the season with a team-high 13 rebound and 10 points.

JSU (2-1) reached 90 points for the second time in a win this season after a season-opening 103-44 decision against Brewton-Parker.

JSU led by a modest seven points at the conclusion of the first period, 19-12. The Tiger remained close through most of the first half, but with 3:41 to play before halftime JSU began a 12-0 run that went into the third quarter which turned a 28-16 lead into 40-16. That lead quickly escalated into a 37-point advantage for the Gamecocks as they grabbed a 56-19 lead midway through the period.

In the fourth quarter, JSU cemented its win outscoring SC 32-6 over the final 10 minutes. The Gamecock bench put up 51 total points as the red and white shot 48-percent overall from the field.

The Gamecocks return to action on Monday at The Pete hosting Rhode Island in a 7 p.m. tip-off.
